A Norway ID Card number is an identification number for people who have a residence permit and plan to stay in Norway for more than six months. You’ll need it when communicating with various Norwegian authorities.
WHEN DO YOU GET A NORWAY ID CARD NUMBER?
If you have been granted a residence permit in Norway, you will receive your NorwayID number in a letter from the Tax Administration about two to six weeks after you have met with the police to order your residence card.
If you are a citizen of an EU/EEA country, you will receive your Norway ID Card number from the Tax Administration when you meet there after you have registered with the police. See information about moving to Norway at the Tax Administration (external website).
